Congratulations to the 37 particiants who successfully completed the NYS snowmobiling safety course. As always the instructor Jim Blessing did a great job with the kids and Ken Nitz was a great addition. Jan out did herself this year with lunch for the whole crew.
Our first annual Christmas party at the new clubhouse was a great success. All had a great time.
Dan is busy putting the finishing touches on the interior of the clubhouse while trail crews have been out in force to take care of the reroute thru Pondview.
Hopefully it will snow soon…….

Went for a rider in the park yesterday. Not Bad. We need more snow. I hope this rain and snow mix is good for the trails. Needs to get colder and freeze up a little. Just remember to ride safely. Have lots of fun.

I was going to come to Grafton tomorrow 1-21-09 and ride out of the park to Cherry Plains Park. I looked at your map and it appears your trails toward Cherry Plains are closed. Could you please confirm that they are closed. Thank you.

I would like to set a time to address the snowmobile sommunity on the concerns that have been brought to the attention of myself in reference to the laws governing snowmobiling within the state of new york.
The information is very detailed and requires immediate feed back of others.

I have to truck my sled into the area from the SouthWest to ride. Where can I park my vehicle, so I can back it off into a snowbank and ride? I don’t want to get in trouble for illegal parking but would like to ride out that way.

Parking lots are located in the winter entrance of the park. Follow signs on Rt2 past the main entrance to a left at the store. At the bottom of the hill there is a small lot on the right at Mill Pond. On the left is the winter access road that will take you to the main beach parking lot. Be aware that the beach lot is closed at 4:30.
Comment by Mike — January 14, 2011 @ 1:01 pm |
Thanks for the information, how is the riding out there?
Comment by Kyle Haak — January 14, 2011 @ 1:57 pm
I just read the post about the parking. Are there any other areas along the system that allow parking? The smaller lots are tough to get into with my trailer if there are a few other vehicles. I am thinking about getting out after work tonight and the beach lot is where I would normally park during the day.
Comment by Rich — January 14, 2011 @ 6:14 pm |
The Winter entrance of the Park has a large lot.At the store take a left, go 1/2 mile to winter entrance.

Just did 40 miles from Grafton State Park to Cherry Plain State Park and back via C9. Me and my buddy were the first ones down the freshly groomed trail. Definitely building a NICE base. Still some holes to be filled in, but still the best riding all year! Got off only once to throw a large rock off the trail that was pulled up by the groomer. Other than that and a bunch of low hanging brush, the trails were clear and rock free. AWESOME ride!
Comment by Brian — January 20, 2011 @ 3:05 am |
how are the trails condition? It has been a week with little to no snow and what I am sure was heavy traffic.
Comment by kyle — January 27, 2011 @ 2:30 pm |
I just rode yesterday from Schaghticoke to the Grafton Store and back. Tails were in really good shape compared to the same ride I did last weekend. The grooming crew did a great job hats off to you (excellent job since last week). Just as we were leaving the store the ice / rain strom started. We took the S99 trail back to trail 9 heading back to Pittstown. Be careful on that trail there are a couple of spots were you will have to cross 2 small creeks. Still not a bad ride but when I got home and off my sled I was an ice-burgh from the storm. Keep up the great work Trailblazers.

thank you for the post. we have been hard at work trying to get the trails ready and i have been hearing a lot of good things about the trails. i will let everyone that takes the time to help out and groom know all the good things. thank you the grooming team
Comment by adam — February 10, 2011 @ 10:29 pm |
Yes, gromming has been kepting up with the amount of traffic, but trail signing in and around the park really needs to be better posted. Had a hard time finding the C9 turn by “rabitt run”

Last weekend was awesome riding !! Karl and I went from Grafton S.P to taking The Stephentown Route to Cumby’s in Stephentown for gas(43 & 22) , then back and to to Cherry Plains all around and back to Grafton. It was most definitly the smoothest ride I have ever been on! Once again, good Job Groomers!!
Sunday we had to run up to Edelmann’s (by car) and we spotted a couple stuck down in a ravine on the power lines. Just be careful the ice was over a foot thick, but the dude broke through, ski’s under the ice. Three of us were able to pull the sled up and hold it above the blockage so he could get back on and ride out of there. But we got a litle wet, we thankfully had a warm car to get into.. Just beware, tis the season with all the melting, getting stuck sucks. Speaking of stuck….
I want to thank the dude that helped me get UN-stuck in the deep snow 2 weeks ago, Route 7, crossing a driveway…I now see it is beaten down nicely!. Hope we get more snow, the base we have a nice!
